40-Hour Domestic Violence Training: January 13 - January 17 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (one hour lunch)
The training is in person.

Objective: To train State-Certified Domestic Violence Counselors

  • Meets CA Evidence Code 1037.1 for DV Counselors
  • Expert Speakers and Professional Setting

Topics Covered:

  • History of domestic violence (DV)
  • DV victim-counselor privilege
  • Civil and criminal law related to DV
  • Laws that protect confidentiality of victim records and information
  • Peer Counseling techniques
  • Housing, public assistance and other financial resources available to meet the financial needs of DV victims
  • Referal services available to DV Victims
  • Societal attitudes toward DV
  • Cultural Compentency

By Registering, you agree to the following:

1. I understand the importance of attending all sessions in order to receive my certificate. I will be present at all sessions unless illness or emergencyshould arise, in which case I will notify the facilitator as soon as possible and make up the hours at the next scheduled training. The cost of making up sessions in future trainings is $25 per topic.

2. I understand that poll questions will be given at random times throughout each topic session to verify participation. Attendees must respondwith a minimum of 85% accuracy to receive attendance credit per topic session. Otherwise a make-up session will be assigned for a $25 fee. A40-hour certificate will not be issued until all sessions are completed.

3. I understand that the topic of domestic violence can elicit strong and sometimes unexpected emotions, and may affect each individual differently.Therefore, I agree to do my part in creating a safe, non-judgmental environment in which each person (with backgrounds, experiences, beliefs,and values that may differ from mine) may participate in his or her own exploration and education about issues related to domestic violence.

Disclaimer: According to California Evidence Code Section §1037.1(a)(1), Domestic Violence Counselor is defined as a person who is employed by a domestic violence victim service organization, whether financially compensated or not, for the purpose of rendering advice or assistance to victims of domestic violence and who has at least 40 hours of training as specified. Therefore, if an individual has completed the 40-hour training, but is not employed by a domestic violence victim service organization then, according to code, you are not considered a Domestic Violence Counselor. Those meeting the training requirements outlined in California Evidence Code Section §1037.1(a)(1) and employed by a domestic violence service organization for the purpose of rendering advice or assistance to victims of domestic
